What is Core Team? Youth Ministry is a mission that's bigger than one person- fruitful youth ministry is a team effort that requires a variety of spiritual gifts, talents, and personalities.
The "Core Team" is a team of volunteers who support youth ministry at St. Andrew in a handful of ways. Volunteers may serve on the Edge (Middle School) Core Team, LifeTeen (High School) Core Team, or both!
We strive to place volunteers in roles that utilize their strengths. Below are some of the duties that Core Team fulfills during Edge/Life Teen Nights:
Food service (Set-up & clean-up)
Social Shepherding (Greeting, welcoming, seeking out kids who are standing alone.)
Authenic Relationships (being present each week, sharing your faith/growing in faith alongside them)
Preparing and sharing a couple talks and/or personal stories
Small Group leading (Making a space where they can answer the questions
Tech support
Empowering the Big Fish (Big Fish are High school students who help run Edge)
As the saying goes, many hands make light work; a healthy Core Team is one that has enough hands to cover all the ministry "bases". This prevents individual volunteers from being over-extended. It also gives everyone the freedom and joy of operating out of their strengths while entrusting that their weaknesses will be covered by other team members with different strengths.
Considering whether you might be a good fit for Core Team? Think about which ages you'd like to help minster to and give us a call or shoot us an email.
*We love talking about youth ministry and are happy to help our brothers and sisters in Christ find a place in the Church where their gifts and passions can shine and bear good fruit for the Lord. If we have a conversation and it doesn't seem like Core Team is a good fit for you, we'll probably be able to recommend for other ministries that could benefit from your support!
If you're ready to give Core Team a try: Complete the Core Team Application and email to Teresa Gjernes at [email protected]. You may also turn it in at the Parish Office.
